but i couldn't figure out what the deal was....

later..... i detected that all to familiar smell of brake pads
getting hot....

i guess the friggan calipers are semi seized up .....

it's always sumthin....

I agree, it's always sumtin. Just after I replace all 4 tires I felt that dreaded thump, thump thump of my rotors out of whack.
I replaced the rear but now I have to wait for the fronts.
Fronts not so bad, yet.
Funny thing is the pads were in A-1 shape.
No time and no funds. Besides it's time to fish and I need my camper on the truck.
I'll be saving all my money and repairs for November.

that thump, thump, thump

can happen as a result of rust on the rotor from it just sitting

so there can be nothing but a little rust making that happen.

My beast is rather heavy so since i have a lead foot i always make sure it can stop real FAST........

you never know when someone is gonna lock them up for no reason what so ever.

Had a guy yesterday pull in front of me so fast that i thought i was going to clip his rear corner and roll his car like the police do for a Runner.... good thing --->i was driving slow .......

Well we were hoping that it was something as easy and as cheap as that but NOPE! Even thought it may just be the ABS sensor. The rotors were actually squared! Could not even be turned.
That is from driving constantly with a 2500(empty) 5500 full camper on the back.
I am lucky to have a mechanic in the family and we trade labor costs.
I can't stop fast when driving that thing so I just pray that the morons stay out of my way.

Talking

that reminds of an episode....ha ha ha
thinking about it being squared....

i'm driving my Hot VW down route 6 leaving fairhaven heading
EAST....and all of a sudden as i round the curve....
i see this tire pass me and boogie down the road....

i'm laughing....saying some friggan idiot just lost a tire....
but the idiot was me.... suddenly the car tilts
and i can barely control it to a stop.....
as i see the tire still going and it hits this lady's Cadillac

i get out to survey the Damage and she comes over to give me a bunch
of crap about my tire hitting her car...
so i let her rant and Rave for awhile....

then i started to get real MAD -> like dangerous now
and i stood up from a crouched position and said
LOOK lady i wasn't driving the dammed tire !
and i had no control where it was going...
steam coming out of my Nostrils.....

my can of spinach was about to be opened ---LOL

she then got the message and stormed off screaming obscenities
so i yelled, well then F U too - ya crazy Beotch - laughing...

My truck I have on the mainland has brake problems every coupe years and it happened again yesterday. It sits in a parking lot near the water year round and doesn't get used for months on end. Sometimes as long as 5 or 6 months. Then I jump into it and hit the highway. I have brought it in several times and they say there is nothing wrong, just that I need to use it more. I may just replace everything.
Breaks suck. Trailer brakes, truck brakes, I have break problems constantly.

yes way to high!!

pads and rotors are around 30 for both per wheel
depending on quality of course

figure 15- 20 minutes per wheel or 1 1/2 hours labor

so go to somewhere that only does brakes and get an estimate

thanks guys, a brake place came back with $400, which seems more resonable, but these are only the front!!!

what the hell....I guess I don't have a choice here...

Some cars the front rotors are also the hubs. Not sure about hyundai .The flap in the brake line is a pretty rare but good find.I've seen old diesel fuel lines do that and cripple the big rigs. Most trucks use hard plastic hose for fuel.Problem solved when they stopped using rubber. Not sure what the car place charges for labor but estimated parts are close to 200$$ for front brakes and rotors unless the rotors are just cheap bolt on style then the price is more like 100 -150 $$.Labor for trucks is in the 75-100 dollar mark.Cars I don't know.I'd imagine less because of the flat rate scale.I've seen trucks with disc brakes have the disc break completely away from the center part.I hate doing brakes.Did a 4 wheel rear brake job on a freightliner today. That bill was far over 1G$$.Did the clutch and flywheel on the same rig yesterday along with the steering column and a few tires. My knees are paying the price.
