Where are all the big ones? Out on the shoal area today, shallow and deep, boated about 20 don't think even the comm guys could keep! Looking for those over 20-22".

Thanks, so I gave up way too early: only needed 50-60 (lbs or fish, it is about the same) more to get my 1 rec keeper....

There are a ton of 15" fish out there...frankly this is a case where the comm guys pound fish and the rec's scratch. IMO there should be no difference. If it is good enough for a comm to take them then the rec should keep them as well. The reason I say that is the rec will actually kill far more fluke just to get a few keepers. It makes no sense. This is another case of regulators who don't have a grasp of the real world.

As far as big fluke ...looks bad this year around here. However, eastern long island is murdering giant fluke. 8/10/12lers are being caught like joe is catching 15" fish.

First drift on Lucas I had a 6 lb fish and thought I was in for a slamathon. The rest of the day was comm size only.

There are no fluke or for that matter any fish in Eastern Long Island.

Shoals use to be a great area to get nice Fluke!! But the draggers have been pounding the area hard for the last few years and it is junk now!

I agree with Sandman that the size for Comm and Rec should be the same.
And everything that comes up in the draggers nets should have to be kept and count against the quota! To much fish kill dumped cause of culling!!

You do realize that those are two contradictory statements?

Why do you say that Don? That's what we are allowed under the rules. Would you rather we be like NY with 2 fish over 21 inches?

Search all over today southern end of MV sound and around and couldn't find a rec keeper. Send some of those 8 - 10 lb'ers this way, please!

Get away from the fleet Buzzy. We banged away at them today with Tony O hauling in a slammer of about 7 pounds. Action isn't insane but the rewards are there if you put in the time at the midpoint of Vineyard Sound. There were one or two other vessels fishing our drift but we aren't complaining.

We were no where near the fleet! We were one of very few vessels outside (S/SE) of a line from Devils's to Sow&Pigs.
