another strike against shimano cs....
Man this is really turning bad quick.
I opened up my box of platinum service reels that I had serviced over the winter. (I just put the serviced reel box up in the attic until spring when I get it back from them without looking at each reel, I make sure they are all there but don't check each reel)
Jeeez what a nightmare. One reel was partially dissembled . There was a bag of parts in there but it required tools so small I took it to my local guy who called me up and said this reel was not cleaned and there were parts missing. His is fixing it for me. Oh, Shimano charged me for this "platinum service"
Another reel had screws missing from the sides of the reel! (They were there when I sent it in!!!)
And of course they do not replace platimum reels that require a lot of work anymore or reel body's anymore only offering a slight discount on a new one. Nice but I prefer replacement over discount.
I sent them a complain-gram and told them, I was a 100% shimano man for well over a decade because in the past they took care of the customer, customer service is king to me, initial cost is secondary. But after this event, when it came time to buy new gear this year...I considered other quality brands. (I bought two saltiga conventionals)

Bummer. I just sent a Torium (rusty, busted dog, missing some parts) in for service and it was back to me super quick and in pristine shape. All they charged me was for the base repair fee, nothing for parts.
I guess as with anything, YMMV. Very peculiar though that this would occur with "platinum" service though... One would think that the QC there would be very high.

I'd be interested in their reply, since they had been known for good service in the past.
If they drop the ball on this one and don't come back with any kind of apology/explanantion, then write them off as another company that has lost its way and has resorted to shoddy workmanship and excuses.
There's nothing worse than losing a bond with a good company or a company losing a good customer!

I've had 2 Spheros and a Baitrunner serviced... fast, not expensive, well done. This was about a year ago, maybe more.

Sandman sorry to hear that. All my experiences with Shimano have been top notch and service has been better than expected.

I had my own not so great issues with them servicing my Stella. IMO they didnt even come close to the customer service I've heard about.

It doesn't make sense for them to keep replacing reels for free. That has to cost them a small fortune platinum service or not. Look what happened with Pure Fishing they replaced tons of Nautil reels and eventually stopped making them because it was cost prohibitive. It is one thing if the reel is under warranty. Or platinum service is an extended warranty, but if platinum service is just a service plan with no implied replacement warranty there is no bitch there

i sent them a sahara 4000, a spheros 6000, and a stradic 4000 that had all frozen up. all cam eback in a few weeks, but the saharas drag was now frozen, which it wasnt before, it it happened somehwere i dont know but at least fix it. Thought a switch to diawa would be better, after buying a saltiga and having that die fast, switched again penn and VS

regardless of being shimano or any other tier 1 reel manufacturer, down to the local guy who repairs reels. If I put a box of reels away months ago and never did a quick quality check on each prior to putting them away... I'd be sure to count a "strike" against myself as well. Just sayin......

I sent back a Stradic CI4 4000 because the foam handle kept falling off and the bearings started sounding scratchy. They sent it back and the only thing that appeared different was a missing cover on the other side of where the handle goes in. When I called about it they swore that was a brand new reel they sent. I asked them how they were able to mimic the scratches from trying to put back the handle on in the surf with a hook point and where was the cover? They said send it back. 2 weeks later a true new reel showed up. At least they made good in the end but you gotta watch these guys close as they are not to be trusted.

They probably take the labels off and sell them to Building 19.
