serviceing a live well pump
I have a piranha live well pump in my boat and I use all the time ,(I fish almost exclusively with live bait) I go through a pump a season , the one in the boat now sounds like a coffee grinder , I only have 1 spare pump left as they now are discontinued , is there any way to service them , if not when the last 1 goes I have to change the through hull fittings , they look like 1 piece not designed for repairs ?

My guess is these pumps are factory sealed without the intention of being repaired. Would back flushing the pump help, could be junk up in it. Surprized the thru hull needs removal.
I have the same problem at present myself, mine sounds like a sick parrot and surprised it's not blowing the fuze.

NO, they are throw-away. There are no bearings or anything inside, just worn plastic.
Some Rule pumps have removable motor housings. But they cost about as much as a whole pump. I have a dual inlet rule and kept a spare motor on board, but I am getting way more than one season out of them. Mine is also been discontinued, so once I go through that last motor replacement, on to something else.

Cool, thanks for the advice. My pump just went, it's on my list of fixes, I will look into that pump.
