to seal or not

here's your answer.

ayc without sealer..that brown you see is pitch coming through the acrylic paint, bubbleing up under the clear coat...that plug was all yellow.

I've got a few more hangin downstairs thats doing the same thing,,very sappy ayc...but I did note one thing,,,it all came out of a 4x4 that was very knotty...you could see the dark grain in the wood........all these years of butchering wood I should have known better not to use it

Seal EVERYTHING its only a LITTLE MORE TIME, And in Fact PLUG WILL LAST LONGER........What has happened is the Natural Oils from plug has come out and bled through the Water Base PAINT ............... Sealing properly will STOP this................

You have to admit it's kind of pretty.

CS, the ones where the pitch came through, did you use an oil based primer? Just asking so I know

I'll hang mine off a bass as a reminder if I ever get one

boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits mix. 60% linseed/40% spirits. Dip the plug for 30 seconds (even AYC), let drip, then wipe off excess. Let dry for several days, then prime. Dispose of rags carefully (read the warnings on the linseed can) or you'll end up burning down the cave

Thanks CS. I dont use the bin stuff I use an oil base, takes some time to dry I usually do 2-3 coats, sand after each coat, havent been sealing my ayc, but will take the time to do so. Thanks for the heads up on the bins
