The Mink run is on
O.k. well not exactly, but as I was throwing eels last night a 3 foot long river otter swam right by me as I was wading in the dark. I could tell it had no idea that i was 3 feet away from him, so I made a meowing noise at it and I just about gave it a heart attack If I had waited a few seconds more I could have tapped him on the head with my rod tip.
cute little bugger.

Yep.. this is the 2nd one I have seen this season. You wont find them at the ocean, but you will find them in salt ponds, and estuaries... I'd go on but i dont want to give up my fall honeyhole

They have plentyo f them in RI. I don't know how they affect the salt water populations, but if you have a family move into your freshwater area. Find a new place to fish. They will eat everything. Probably equivalent to saltfishing when seals are around.

How do you rig a mink?
Would that be the same thing the old timers use to do to eels with the long needle?
In our family their was no clear line
between religon and fishing.

I have a pond on my property and have repeatedly stocked it with trout. As soon as the otters figure out that there are fish to be had they literally clean it out. I have given up. I did put herring in the pond last year and they are still there. I would guess that otters don't like the taste of herring.

Brings back memories of late night Rat Fishing with Meatballs out in the alley behind Newbury Street.
The big ones run towards you when they get hooked.
