whats the deal with this wood?? Someone gave me a plank but I have ben avoiding it..

I turned a couple of plugs out of it. It turns well.
From what I read it does not have the anti rot qualities of cedar and has to be really sealed.

good for poppers/bluefish.....seal it well....should work fine..I've spun plugs with it....turns very well........

BOAT fish do count.

ya, lots of tearout and grain showing too
perfect for bluefish plugs

it's an interior trim wood but if it's free and you don't care that it'll get trashed, use it up.

I can think of alot more kinds of wood I would buy before spending any money on poplar

good ?? eben.. i was just given a half dozen 6' long 3x3 poplar cut offs.. plan to spin up abunch fromthem..

I heard somewhere that piping plover is indian for "tastes like chicken" ..

I was going to make some needles out of it. Its a 1 1/2 x 6 by 9 foot plank. that would be a lot of needles and its free..

I'll seal the beghesus out of it then

I've used it, I find it to be fine to work with, have mad probaly 50 plugs from poplar, had very little tear out issues, I take my time, and keep my tools sharp, finish with sandpaper. makes nice needles... poppers too, never bought any though , and I do seal it well... soak it.
I understand some don't like it, and that's fine by me!
