Some of the hybrids these days can gather "free" engergy thru tasks like regenerative breaking, using the charger to load the wheels to stop but at the same time turning the generator to top off the batterys. This is one reason that some of the hybrids have the same city as highway MPG, as they brake more in the city they are actually recharging more plus shutting the engine off at stops ...
I have been waiting for a real good hybrid to come along to pull the boat and go surf fishing until I realized that one good cut of the beach and you go through a trough of saltwater and submerge your batteries and short out / blow up the whole damn thing.... Yep, won't be good for surfcasters... Until they get one that runs off saltwater
