Drift fishing

Guys, I've been fishing out by the Maritime Academy on early mornings. There have been some good blitzes lately. Problem is I don't really know the proper ettiquette when fishing in conditions like this. It seems there are a ton of boats running and gunning towards the schools and it pushes the fish down. For example, Labor Day we were out there around 5:45 just before light. The fish were busting, we were catching, then all of a sudden 3 other boats show up and motor into the fish. The fish scatter, and then reappear elsewhere and the cycle continues. What is the proper way to fish in conditions like this? I feel like I am missing out on the fish becase I refuse to gun into the fish where as others seem to not care. Thoughts?
