Pulling the boat-engine problem

Went out today for quite a while. Went all the way to the NW corner.
I noticed some noise from the OB on the way out but not too bad.
Trolled for a while then when i started back home, I could hear what I describe as knocking. It went away if I kept her under 3500 rpm.
Also noted the temp gage pegged, but the engine was not overheating. The alarm never wnet off.
When I got back to the slip. I lifted the cover and saw water in the pan. There is a hose split towards the back of the powerhead.

So maybe the water shorted the temp sensor wires. That could explain the gage, but what was the knocking sound? And she ran pretty rough at higher rpms. I will check the plugs and change the filter tomorrow (on land). Run it on the hose and see. Hope its not serious. There is still plenty of fishing season left.

Any thoughts are welcome

knocking is never a comforting sound.
not the same but.
I have a bunch of knocking somewhere in the motor... kind of sounds like a diesel between 500-700 rpms. cleans right out as soon as i give it a little throttle. So I'm thinking my knocking is either a) because im still breaking her in or b)some sort of vibration in the motor. Still going to get it checked out regardless.

Could the knocking sound be a rattle caused by engine vibration? Hope you could follow all those technical terms, and clearly i am a professional... so TIFWIW

good luck with it.
I blew a water pisser hose on one of my 250's . didn't notice it for a long time.
fixed the problem but the weeks of salt spray on the motor ruined a few of the wiring harness connections..
a couple injectors failed due to bad wires......----> ka-BOOM..
douse it with wd-40 or you favorite flavor, is all i can say.

Worked on her today. Mostly it was pretty dry inside only a little corrosion.
The pinned temp gage is a bad sensor. Easy fix, maybe it got wet. Its actually working now, so i'll just keep an eye on it.

Fixed the hose plus did a couple more for good measure.

Changed the plugs (they did not look too bad), then the fuel filter.
I dumped it out into a bucket and did notice some crud and discolortion. So thats about all i can do, I'll put her back in Tues or Wed and see how it runs. If NG then off to the shop and thats prolly the end of this seson for me.

I may have to become a ...........

dare I say it..............

shameless boat whore !!!!!
