My grandmother had a big one that was black as coal. One day her daughters scubbed it clean right down to shiny metal. I thought she was going to kill them!

yeah it takes years and years to build up a solid coating....

ya use walnut oil on wood

and olive oil or bacon grease on cast iron

can't blame her at all....

I love my cast iron....I cook in it most of the time, Stuff will last forever....I look forward to having my Grandaughter cooking in it someday.

Love cooking with cast iron. I have lots. My favorite is a Wagner waffle iron. The family loves when I break that out for breakfast.

They are wonderful skillets. I never use soap on mine and make sure they are dry by heating them briefly on the stove after washing them with hot water and a brush
