Hybrids
You might see some stuff like these on the market in the future. Easy to make if you don't turn wood, and they work very well. Top is 5" hab's with black 6" redgill. Bottom is 7" jointed bomber with back joint removed,5/0 siwash, and 6" ronz tail. Swims like the real thing.

I like the Bomber eel. I may give that a go. That would be pretty sad if someone buys that on e-bay and doesn't take the time to rig one on their own.

The rubber tails aren't the secret
A little head start here, but a few other things have to happen too. You guys can figure out the rest. The jointed bomber works good with or without the tail added. The tail gets it just a little deeper than without it.The drawback is the same as any soft rubber in that it tears easily and you need a couple replacements handy.Bluefish like them too, another drawback. The bomber casts about the same with the tail as without, just a little heavier.

what about putting a little lead wire around the hook befor you put on the tail,,,, Just like on a fly,,, small stuff then epoxy it in place,,, might help keep the tail on too,,,,

I just wrap a ball of thread on the shank and zap a gap it.Works fine.I also tried weighting the bomber with water to get it closer to the bottom, but it seemed to ruin the action, even with a small amount of water. The lead wire on the hook shank might do the same thing if you put too much, but you need to experiment and see what works.

Something Different
I am new to this site, but if you want to experiment with something else try a strip of rabbit tail, looks like an eel when it swims thru the water, only concern are tail wraps. Try the magnum strips for larger lures or on bucktails.

Standing on the water, casting your bread
While the eyes of the idol with the iron head are glowing
Distant ships sailing into the mist
You were born with a snake in both of your fists while a hurricane was blowing
