what about putting a little lead wire around the hook befor you put on the tail,,,, Just like on a fly,,, small stuff then epoxy it in place,,, might help keep the tail on too,,,,

I just wrap a ball of thread on the shank and zap a gap it.Works fine.I also tried weighting the bomber with water to get it closer to the bottom, but it seemed to ruin the action, even with a small amount of water.The lead wire on the hook shank might do the same thing if you put too much, but you need to experiment and see what works.

Something Different
I am new to this site, but if you want to experiment with something else try a strip of rabbit tail, looks like an eel when it swims thru the water, only concern are tail wraps. Try the magnum strips for larger lures or on bucktails.
