Why does it feel like a bender?

When you've fished all night followed by 2 hours of sleep? Even though its been a week since an adult beverage?

Feels like a class 2 hangover.

Yup.

I call it an offshore hangover. happens on overnight trips to the edge, I'm wrecked the next day. Gatorade and Tylenol the night we get back seems to help a lot, so I agree it's mainly fatigue and dehydration

You're an old bastard, no doubt.

Ahh, you too eh, John?

I was suffering from a class 3 when I saw you last. (2 sleep deprived nights and a mini-bender)

I find that regardless of whether it's an all night fishing mission or a party night, it takes about 2 days to recover from those now. When I was younger and able-er, I could do that all week

Maybe it's the time zone difference. I'm assuming you're fishing in England if you call it a litre. Here in the US, we call it a liter.

quart! US never really made the transition to metric.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

It's a melatonin type hangover. Your body produces it to help you get to sleep, but if you are pulling an all-nighter, your body doesn't stop porducing it, it produces MORE.
The more you deprive yourself of sleep, the worse the effect will be, until to either collapse in a heap from exhaustion, or you die.
Remember that you NEED sleep. Sure, catnaps help in some situations, but you NEED serious REM sleep or risk suffering a serious psycho-meltdown. Hallucinations, paranoia and system failures are some of the results of lack of sleep. (Of course I'm talking more than a couple days worth, but you get the picture.)

The only way I have figuered out to avoid that feeling is to "fish smarter". All night marathons are harder as you get older. I finally asked myself "what's the point?" Then I began to fish smarter rather than longer. Made me feel better, more family time, everyone is happy.

Ugh, this whole last week I've been doing that. It caught up with me biig time yesterday. Been lazy with work, had to get stuff done. I could barely think straight, losing control of fine motor skills! Slept from 5:00pm to 8:30am!!! and still could sleep more!!! I'm fairly young and it catches up after a week. When I start to a light sore throat I know I'm really over doing it.

That said, feel great today and will be back at it!!!

This is dead on. Only problem I have is that I moved to a new area, have no one to show me the spots or windows. So putting in the allnighters will help cut the learning curve. Hit spots multiple times a night at different stages of the tide. Obviously I'm taking a toll physically!

I've been doing that for the last 5-6 years myself. Stay home on nights that ya know are gonna stink, bad weather, wrong moon, etc. Hit it hard on those choice nights, nights that ya know the odds are in your favor. No sense in getting burnt out in early August.

I don't know how you do it Paul

I think i need to lose some weight, maybe that will help

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.

Its because of where the two hours puts you in your sleep cycle. You are probably waking up right in the middle of your deepest part of sleep. Try experimenting with 1.5 hours , 2.5 hours , 3 hours , 2 hours. ect. Find out where in your rythm you are at assorted times after conking out. Then add or subtract fishing time so that you are in a light part of the sleep cycle when its time to answere the alarm to go to work.

1 litre sounds like a lot but the wind , etc is evaporating water like crazy. The wdsers or wetsuit also drain you then soak it up like a sponge.
