rigging/trolling sinkers / Bead chain / Spro snap swivels (few q's before I start)
before I place "go" on the order of trolling sinker molds just want to make sure all my ducks are facing forward. to reiterate.... first boat to go inshore at the cape and making some trolling sinkers and others. The Do-it molds I selected are:
trolling sinkers: (3,4,5oz) & (6 & 8oz) molds
bank sinkers: (2,3,4,5oz) & (6 & 8oz) & (12oz) molds
bell sinkers: (3,4,5oz)
Brass sinker eyes (#2) 630 quantity (for ends of trolling & top of bell
Are their any others that I should consider ?
Questions: you can see from the pic i got off the net that these trolling sinkers have snap swivels on lead end. What size would you recomend ?
Spro #3's are rated at 60#test
Spro #4's are rated at 100# test
Spro #6's are rated at 200# test.
Would assume these ratings are for line size attached and hence the #4's should work but would like to hear opinions.
I set up the new Tallica 16 II reel on a Terez 7' rod with 65#braid Power Pro multi color depthfinder. They (Shimano) gave me 500 yards of this FREE at the show (value is over $65). I was very happy with this. it was an awesome show.
Also, a few gents at the Sommerset Fish Expo suggested using the "short bead chain w/snap swivel" on the large Tony Maja bunker spoons in conjuction with a 4oz drail. Not sure exactly what the chain set up does and if it is something that I should consider when making sinkers or just add after. Some chains are 3" ... some 4" some quite long. Just how strong is this chain bead ? are they rated in #'s
Can anyone advise as to the exact rigging set up from end of Braid to large Bunker spoon. would guess Braid, to either chain bead or trolling sinker, fairly long stretch of floro w/snap to Bunker spoon.
While at the show I also bought a nice St. Croix Avid inshore, 7', heavy, fast, 10-30#braid, 3/4 to 2oz. I put a Shimano Saragosa 6000 on it. This will be her "light" casting set up on the boat. While at the show I spoke to lots and lots of vendors and all gave the "thumbs up" on the Saragosa so I thought it would be a good choice. My St Croix Avid has the new Spinfisher 4500 on it and I think the Saragosa 6000 is a definite step up. Really looking forward to comparing the two.
Thanks,

Stay away from chain beads they break. The snaps suck. All snaps suck. Tie a knot. If your pouring your own, through wire the sinker with a heavy barrel swiv at each end. 8-10ft mono/flouro to your spoon or whatever your dragging.

interesting you mentioned that, I am no expert but just just the looks of the chain didn't set well with me. Too many "links" to go wrong. Nice tip on using the heavy barrel swivels vs the snap swivels.. again....much stronger.... don't want to loose that expensive bunker spoon and have it turn into a pretty "bottom ornament"
Yes, pouring my own, so where can I pick up some of this "through wire" ? Thanks for the tip
