Must have been awsome. The Channel closed before my time. I saw the majority of shows at The Rat, Middle East, and Churches/VFW's in Cambridge and I the Hardcore scene was very different by then. Those look like they were the days.  |

A week or so ago CBGB's in the bowery closed. I spent a few hazy weekends in NY as a kid and CBGB's was where we always ended up. Richard Hell and the Voidoids, The Ramones in thier element, The Jim Carroll Band ( peopl who died is still a great tune) Iggy Pop, Wall of Voodoo and my personal fav show there, The New York Dolls. There was so much going on there it took you a week to sort out not only what you saw on the stage (three bands a night most nights) who was screwing who or what in the john, I would go outside in the alleys to piss, it was so gross no matter what I had ingested I could still rationalize that it was not prudent to even think about it. I was not going to take out anything or drop my pants in there but it was a hell of a place. Everything stunk and every thing was always sticky.
They should have carted the whole interior to the Smithsonian.  |
