TINMAN, i looked at the molds, but they only go up to 2 ounces. I want at least 2.5 for high current- My favorite is simply the bullet-

Hound- tomorrow is my day off, but i can meet up with you somewhere in the AM- say around 9ish- give me a ring...

Canal special is a simple ball shaped jig head that works best in the canal. The location of the attaching loop is on the top of the ball and the hook faces up. Sinks quickly and doesn't hang up on the bounce. Tha smiling bills and the football has a tendancy to swim too long and they get hung up easily. I do use the football for rubber such as eels.

Actually the canal special jig is different than a ball jig andrus used to make the ones sold around the ditch but someone else is makin em as of the last trip.It's hard to explain if u took a 2 oz bullet an put one oz balls on either side of the head towards the front u might have something like the 4 oz. canal special. It is specail to me as thats the one I got across my eyebrow...

Stan K. makes one of the best canal jig's I have seen. He actually makes several. He uses a dremel tool by eye. P.

Nib is correct as usual -- how the hell did you end up rapping yourself with 4 1/2 ounces of jig?
I have a couple of the jigs in discussion in my photos and figured if I attached them it would clear up any questions about the jigs. These are the newer versions of the jig and they hold up pretty good. They are available in all weights. Depending on the speed of the current, I use a pork rind with them. Sometimes a curly tail is good also. The only trouble with the rind or curly tail is that it takes a little longer to get the bounce needed.
The eye is stainless and the hook is a mustad 8/0 stainless hook.

Ur on the right track.I have found there can be a fine line between too short an too long..Seems sometimes when they are to short the eylet clip combination as it's clearing the bass's clamped mouths doesn't catch a piece of lip.Place ur pinkie finger on top of the eyelet.Thats a 30 lber's top lip bone.See what I mean.In the one oz heads i use the 7/0 owner jig hook.or a 7/0 mustad.A 7/0 gami siwash is very mean..
I like to make my own loops also The plug wire is stronger than the brass sinker stuff.Sometimes with the heavier jigs like the 5 oz stuff for the canal. they can get mashed over when u bring em back along the rocks.But it is time consuming...i think do-it makes stainless eylets..
When i tie em up First thing i do is rap the shank of the hook to make grabbers.I use size E nylon rodbuilding thread.Just make a few bumps an zap it..Holds the trailors on better...I think i gave u some like that to show u..

NIB i agree, after playing with that jig head its obvois that the hook is too short- maybe a 1/2 inch longer would be the schweet spot-

That hook might go good in a bullet or a ball jig.I like ball jigs in lighter weights 3/8-1oz.they push lots of water an are very underrated for finesse jigging.

GF those are the newer version.i like the andrus better.no discernible difference really. i just like the guy that makes em.Andrus makes the best jigs u can buy for striper's hands down..

Here is what I always thought of as the canal jig. Just a little different than ones GF posted. Also NIB what do you think about the Barracuda jig. Stan K. told me they used to use these a lot back in the day. Thought about making a mold for them a few years back but never got around to it. Sorry for the Hijack eben.

I like stans jig the eyelet is back one might think it digs nose down but it is long so it probably balance out.Normally when the eylelet is back they are better for vertical jiggin.i made a jig out of a upperman mold like kevin did.I like my mold.An I like the canal special like u have there.Paul can u make me that mold I wann do em wit bigger hooks like 8/0 9/0.4,4.5 5 5.5..I would pay..
