verizon FIOS
anybody have this Fios for their internet? I am looking to getting it to replace Comcast altogether for internet and TV. It seems like a good deal. We have about 6 MBPS now with comcast and fios offers 5 mbps and 20 mbps, I think we'll start with 5, it's 10 bucks cheaper.
thoughts anyone? comments?

I've had FIOS TV, internet, and phone since last December. No problems at all with anything. TV is $23/month less than Comcast and internet is 15/2 vs. I think 5M/256k for the same price ($45/month). I can't remember ever having an outage.
On the downside, Verizons on demand isn't as good as comcast. The other thing to be aware of is your phone will change to VOIP from copper, and is then reliant on you having power. They install a UPS so you'll have phone during shorter outages, but if you lost power for a long time, I think you'll lose phone eventually.

I just signed up for the whole package, phone internet and TV. I did it mainly for the TV since they have, by far, the best Hi Def serivce. The faster internet and the cheaper phone were side benefits. They'll be installing it in a couple of weeks.

the more people that sign up for it on a particular street....
they get the service earlier than other streets because then verizon knows it has instant clientel on that street and it gets done first.

I got Cox for everything. No problems fair prices and they've had the fiberoptic backbone for a while just never made a big deal.I got 15mb down and 3mb up for net and Digital package.I don't watch TV so who cares about that.I don't Use the phone so don't care about that. The internet works always.Very rarely slows down.I was told if I want fios I would need to have an electrican install an outlet of some sort in my apartment .Thats b)115h17 so screw that I'll stay with cox cable.I hear verizon is just as good I'm sure you'll like it better than Comcrap.Never herd a good word about them.

I got it.
It saves me money.
the TV channels aren't as good but it is still worth it even if I want to add movies.
The people that we dealt with on the phones didn't give us what we wanted and we had to call and let then know about how we wanted it set up. That is why we wanted it in writing after we had decided on what we wanted but we never got anything in writing. It is all squared away now.
I think the picture might even be a bit clearer than cable. Now if someday I can afford to buy a real TV instead of the antiquated one, then I'll be able to see what all the hype is about high def.

Verizon does'nt do Ala Carte to my knowledge. They also don't charge you extra for digital content. I don't do billing, just installation, and maintainence. It's new, and there a re bound to be glitches, and bumps in the road, but it will get better.
Gone fishing you can get a battery at any electrical supply that sells alarm equipment. If you are really having trouble finding one pm me. Just so you know, the battery is warrantied for 1 year, and then it is the customers responsibility. We were never told that it should last 3-4 years, but I am not saying that someone did not tell you that, that being said we don't know how long they sit on a shelf in a warehouse either. Also know that the Phone company spends an average of 2,500.00 per customer to get you this service, and you pay nothing for the Optical Network Terminal, Battery Backup Unit, Power Supply, or wireless networking router. You also pay nothing for the installation.
Here is a link where you can order one online: http://www.apexbattery.com/12-volt-8...batteries.html
Measure the size of your battery, it is a 12v 8amp hour battery

Gonefishin, I don't know why they told you you have to pay for the battery maybe the person you spoke to was misinformed. The guy that installed ours said they replace them free, he even said he could give me one.

FB I work out of Woodrock RD I am sure you know where that is...
Bruce after the year is up they are supposed to charge you for the battery, that being said there are plenty of guys who are sympathetic to the needs of the customer

Meh, if you can't get it going it might help. I've never personally used any lubricant but I guess it's not the worst idea in the world. Try doing it without the lubricant first. You'll just have a big mess.
The fire department in town uses our holes for their alarm cables and they always use lubricant. It makes a mess of the whole manhole. I bet they do it on purpose! oke:

Mike if they try and pull the drop in and it is pre-connectorised then the connect barely fits in a 1" conduit, but it is doable. They can cut the connector off, and the drop will go, then they can splice on a connector at the house.

Righyt now all I have is about a 40 feet coil of FIOS cable at the base of the last pole, no connector on the end. It looks pretty thin and I think it should go with no problem. Actually all they asked me to do was to pull a trace through, and they said they would pull the cable.

MAKOMIKE here's how you do it...
Take a small piece of rag.... Tie it to a piece of polypropylene electricians pull string...this stuff is very lightweight but very strong. Stuff it in the conduit...go to the other end and take a standard vacuum cleaner and stick it over as much of the piece of conduit as you can...if it leaks then wrap a rag around it. It will suck the line right thru the conduit right beside what's there...in about 4 seconds your done.
On new conduit you can use a "mouse" that ties to the line and sucks thru, this is how I do it, but if your thrifty you can save yourself alot of time and aggravation....I do this stuff all the time and I can pull a cable in a 1000' conduit in about 5 minutes flat
Works on T top legs too
As far as dish detergent for pull soap...use the electricians pull lube...it dries to powder and makes less of a mess later on. You shouldnt need it if you got a helper. If it feels like it's getting tight then pull back and you should be able to move through the tough spot if you pull without stopping.
