No realy guess it was weighed in at Westport marine today along with 29 other fish. Average weight for all 30 fish 42 lbs. If this keeps up I think there will be a new all time set this year or next !!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to be negative but 30 dead big fish in one haul. Nice -

. If that's true and all these big fish kills keep up I'm afraid there will be no fish left in the near future.

Did they amend the commercial regs to include Mondays in the commercial season? Unless 15 different recreational anglers weighed in fish in Westport today for a 42# average or 6 commercial permits checked in Sunday's catch.

Am I missing something here?

fish from during the week, some guys stock pile before they sell so they dont have to go to market every trip.
its legal to sell on off days. nice fishy!!!
that guy is making a killing.

You're not missing anything--Monday is a closed day and Sunday is a 5 fish day.

Unless I'm mistaken, you can't sell Sunday fish on a Monday.

Why would you expect it to keep up with all the big fish being killed this year? Congrats to the angler, his skill and luck are to be admired, but the killing of fish of this quality for food use is sad news for the rest of us and illustrates very short sighted fishery policy.

He's reporting a catch from last Thursday, I believe. Not sure about the 76# fish, but my first hand account said it was 19 fish @42# average. Same weigh station.

I wonder, though, whether the fish came from Mass waters, or whether it was taken off the Block. The way I understand how these things work, if the fish was brought to port in Mass, it qualifies for a Mass record. I think that many of the state records up and down the coast were caught offshore beyond state waters--swordfish, certain sharks, yellowfin, marlin and so on.

I just found the 30 fish part suspicious, because the way Greg worded his post, it sounded like one guy with a Tuesday-Thursday comm limit landing them on a Monday

He may be "yankin" because he thinks its funny and likes to play with some of us a little (some of us have known and liked Greg for a while) but he has also over time been right on the money with a lot of "rumors" emanating from that part of the state. Let's not forget the fact that many RI residents hold a RI License and a MA Comm License. Using Throwing Timbers term, these anglers can land/sell 6 fish in RI and 30 fish in MA essentially picking their own pockets. On the other hand, a MA resident can not go to RI and get a RI comm license (unless that has changed in the last couple years). Although I agree that crossing state waters to get either limit should not be allowed, I am far more concerned with all of the S-B fishing going on in the EEZ by anglers from and in the waters off both states.

Oh well...I just wanted to throw in that comment...I have to get ready for the MA Recreational Registry Steering Committee Meeting this affternoon. Oh goody.

I was going to make that point about Mass comms not being able to get a RI license. I believe in reciprocity--up to a point. When I can't get licensed to do something in your state, you shouldn't be able to do it in mine.

But since I don't hold a Mass comm license (sorry, Goose

), it's not my fight. If I had one, you bet your ass I'd be screaming to DMF to not issue licenses to out-of-staters. RI doesn't offer reciprocity, and NH, Maine and CT are gamefish states. I wonder how many people who pushed gamefish for their own states hold a Mass commercial license?

As far as the EEZ goes--I personally don't care. 1.1 million pounds is 1.1 million pounds no matter where the fish come from. It gets filled every year in less than 6 weeks. If taking fish from the EEZ fills the quota sooner, so be it. If guys are raiding RI waters and take the fish to Mass to sell, so be it. The inshore Mass fishery probably benefits from it. But, since it's the law, I don't condone it.

How about setting a three or four fish per day limit for out of state comm. license holders.This would eliminate alot of the hanky panky that's going on especially stock piling and tr#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g fish from out of state waters.They need to make it financially unfeasable for wrong doers to operate without hurting the legit guys.Just my two cents worth.

All they do is stuff them in a freezer and wait anyhow.
