Thanks for the reminder, John - I already installed the latest version of my AVG which is set for daily scans and made sure I had the MS08-067 patch -
I'm set for automatic updates from MS but checked anyway and had a small patch to download -
The Mrs also got an email at work today from their geeks about a "ransom-ware" virus called Vundo that encrypts jpegs, PDF's and Word docs - and then the pranksters sell you a product for $40 to decrypt your files again -
Goddammed kids today... 
So anyway, whaddya think, Cap - is there gonna be a denial-of-service attack for April Fools Day or not.... 
And would shutting off your computer on the 1st be effective - or would the worm just do it's dirty work once you power up again anyway?
Concerned geezers want to know...

Its about once a year that these things come out, that is, something that is SUPPOSED to be big virus. And sometimes it does happen. Id like to see it happen, seeing that Im a tech who's job has gone to India and will be out of work in a matter of months.

If this thing gets in to your computer, get ready to buy a new one.
You can't get rid of it.
I'm not trying to be a harbinger of doom, but this thing is bad, bad, bad.
I've dealt with crap like this over the years, but believe me when I tell you, this is some NASTY stuff.

Thanks for the heads up John. I just loaded a bunch of updates. I guess I was a bit behind. Of course I have Russian anti-virus software, so I feel pretty good about that part.  |

This one is the most malicious virus I have seen once its on a machine, you have to reimage to get it off.
If you can get to windowsupdate.com from the machine in IE it is not infected. |

it infects a site, you hit the site it gets downloaded,
its in quicktime and other trojans.
once its on a network it starts to spread from machine to machine

i heard recently.......this morning
it's supposed to be hidden in a small graphic... the down-loader
also i heard that if you can go to your anti virus software site
and download the latest update for virus signatures then you don't have
the worm
as it's supposed to be able to block those sites.
 and all microsoft sites
microsoft has a 250,000.00 dollar reward for information
leading to the conviction of the worm author |

I have had infected machines hooked up to a network tracer and somehow this damn thing actually traps the http requests out to specific sites. This thing is dangerous. we took alot of our labs off the network to keep them Isolated once we found an intrusion. |
