Off season training

Its only 5 months or so until the big migrants return.

Tell us what you're doing to prepare yourself physically and mentally for next year

It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole
Where all the fish is blind

Still fishing this month and hope to follow them down to NC in Jan.

Dropped 60 lbs this year so now I'm down to 192....gonna try and maintain through the holidays by riding the excercise bike and then hit the gym in January for some Weight Training. Once spring gets here I'm going to start walking again....was doing 5-6 miles a night this past summer/fall....then I'll be ready to rock once May gets here

I'm actually considering practicing casting. Sounds pathetic but that's exactly how I feel everytime I go to the canal. I can outcast plenty but get outcasted by jsut as many. There are definitely times when distance counts and I really think it does there based on my limited time. Need to work on the mechanics.

Never work on mechanics until you have first justified buying a new more expensive rod and reel to match....probably a few more aerodynamic plugs as well.

This is what I should do, I weighed myself a couple of weeks ago on a real scale, I weigh 50#s more than I did 20 years ago. No wonder I float.

Age and arthritis are taking their toll on my knees and ankles after a night of climbing rocks I'm sore for 2 days. My goal is to lose weight and get in shape. So far I've been back to the gym 3-4 days per week going on third week now. If that doesn't work it will mean much more kayak fishing than usual. However I am real hesitant to go out in kayak at night alone.

Keep running long 1/2" drill bits through my ears and pouring battery acid in until I get the urge to fish eels again. So far all that has happened is that I want to move to Franklin and change my name to Sauerkraut. Probably I'm getting close

Now that TDF has lost his left leg and can no longer win, I would suggest we do the S-B Portly Angler 2010 starting on Jan 1 (jan 2 for those needing one last hurrah).

January 1 to May 1 Portly Angler Challenge 2010

My biggest issue last year was being out of shape (well, that and I generally suck as an angler) and this year I need to work on that. 'Specialy if I'm going to even think about a wetsuit .

for me.. it's all about recovery...

I re-aquaint myself with what my wife looks like..
I give my aching shoulders a chance to get semi limber again and avoid anything that aggrivates the calcium deposits that reside there...

I get some sleep.. more than 4-5 hours a night...

I allow my hands to grow skin( finger tips mainly) instead of scar tissue.

I wean myself of off of Advil (this goes in conjunction with resting my aching shoulders)

I go down in my shop and start turning plugs, making jigs and tieing flies... after a few months of this, the old yearning comes back.. and I cant wait for the start of the new season..

A good run is better than a bad stand!

After bird hunting, dawn to dusk 3 days a week for the last couple of months I'm feeling like I'm in pretty good shape @ 6'-165lbs....but after seeing my bro get his arse whipped by a "little" 150 lb. tuna last year I think I'll start on the "milkshake & beers " diet to put on a few lbs. Would s*#k big time to get pulled over the gunnel after I've been bustin his balls.

Been going to the gym every weekday AM, lost 15# so far (the doc is happy with me for the first time in three years!). Mostly weight training, so results are good (then again, I'm a pretty big boy, so I'm not sure if I want more bulk).
