Embarrasing wet suit question.
So i picked up a wetsuit this year, got a good deal on it. But i have one question that i think i know the answer for. So when mother nature calls... Do ya hop in the water or what? Its a bit embarrassing to ask but this is SB .

You should have thought about this BEFORE you bought a USED Wet Suit.....

Pee away I say! There are a few products you can buy and you should soak your suit in them periodically to clean them! Stink Away is the one I use I think? Very potent stuff and it does the trick!

I think I used that stuff: when the dog got sprayed by a skunk!

Get a 2 piece spearifshing wetsuit with pants. 10 times better than the one pieces and farmer john 2 pieces. They have a flap system thats easy to deal with.

Don't do it, don't piss yourself...go before you get in the water. If you get the %$%$%$%$ scared out of you while fishing that's an excuse...doing it voluntarily is just wrong...
When I wetsuit, which isn't very often(maybe 6-7 times a year) I scrounge a dip off Redlite right after we get off the ferry and it cleans me right out. Once I'm empty the wetsuit goes on and I'm usually good for the night....

Talented men alternate which leg it goes down. Keep both warm.........
You definately wanna rinse it off with at least some fresh pressurized water at least once a week. Once the salt water evaporates, the pee and saltwater leave crystals behind that will make your wetsuit stiff and rub your grundle raw.......

My neighbor (Hooligans) is a scuba diver and I asked him specifically about this when I was thinking of buying a wetsuit as to what divers do when they are down below and they have to pee???? His answer was they pee of course if they have to....its not like they are going to surface, take all their gear off, whizz and then get their gear back on and dive again???? Pee people....peeeeee!!!

i try to avoid it but will if i have too. i always flush the suit out a few times after (pull out the neck and dip) and rinse it well when i get home.
if you wading, you can go with backbeach's approach of making sure you go first and then not drinking anything. if you'll be doing any real swimming, you'll want to stay well hydrated to avoid cramping, which makes having to pee inevitable.

I have two different wetsuits that I use depending on the water temp.
My 3mm is NRS grizzly suit, best part it has a "relief zipper" on the bottom. So you can zip the bottom zipper up and it opens the access area, which allows you to go without peeing in the suit.
My 7mm is Bare, its a farmer john style but doesnt have the relief zipper, if the waters cold enough for the suit the pee actually helps keep you warm. Kind of weird the first few times, but you get used to it and it does help to warm the suit.
I use a good shampoo that i got from a dive shop, was $7 or 8 for the bottle and you only use a cap full. I rinse down the suit everytime, and once a week, give it a good soak in the soap and warm water, never had a smell isuues.
This is more embrassing than your pee question. The issue is "chub rub"
The other thing you might experience is "chub rub". If your a bigger guy and walk any distance in the suit you might get some chafing around your groin, private and leg area, tends to happen in warmer weather. They sell special lotions and stuff, but its just a non scented deodrant stick, I use degree or speed stick, a little rub on the thighs and legs and your good to go. Will make those long walks more enjoyable, especially if you fish daily.
Hope that helps.

When your 200 yards out on a rock for a few hours and have to go its tough trying to pull down your wetsuit to sling an eel.

this thread could go down as the funniest ever!!!!
serioulsy though, I once heard a story (Maybe it was from Bear Grylls?) who said that in waters infested with parasites, you do not under any circumstances want to pee under water because they could swim up your junk and infect your bladder!!
not sayin our waters are like that, but just sayin' something to think about!

Yeah the fish in the urethra thing was on river monsters, was down right distrubing.
some local guy pees in the water and this 4" long fish/worm thing swims inside his urethra and gets stuck and dies and starts decomposing, starts to stink, etc.
goes to the doctor and gets it PULLED out with tiny instruments and they save it in a jar. they had the actually footage of it!
they showed the damage these fish can do to human body carcass, was distrubing, amazing and unsettling all at the same time. People get dumped in this river when they want to dispose of a body.
really made me think twice about peeing in the water. F THAT!

Chub Rub
Here is what urban dictionary has a def.
1. chub-rub
what fat girls experience when their inner-upper thighs rub together so much they get chaffed and rashes break out. It usually is accompanied by sweat and foul odors.
Used in a sentence:
That chick has such bad chub-rub that I can see blood marks on her pants between her thighs.

back in 1990 I lived in Florida and did some marine construction. We worked doing seawall repairs on the intercoastal. During the months of Jan and Feb we wore wetsuits.
When nature called (#1) we just peed in the wetsuit. It does warm you up but takes getting used to; letting the flow start.
Cleaning the wetsuit is essential. Urine leaves the body almost sterile but will leave a rash.
#2 is totally out of the question.

Luds, dishwashing soap is to aggressive for neoprene and will break it down in time. A freshwater rinse or soak is fine after each use or two but to wash it use either wetsuit wash or baby shampoo.
If you are gonna pee in it, which I do, don't do it when you are still dry and not when you get on your front seat going to another spot. That is just weird.

I never had done it prior to a Cuttyhunk trip last year. Tynan19 built it up like it was the best thing that could ever happen to me so I tried it while I was out there. It was fantastic! Since then I've started washing my suit every trip though! I just soak it in dishwashing soap and water. Works great. I have two suits so I always have one that's dry.
