Hooked for Life!!

What a great day I had! Took a client and his 10 yr. old son fishing. They both love to fish, mostly freshwater, some scup, really love it. So I was telling them about catching bass on light tackle and topwaters and they were in. We get to The Spot and the wind is HOWLING in our face. They couldn't quite reach the rip, but I was getting the occasional follow when I hit it(Had to play the wind and allow for about a 15 yard wind drift). They had a pod of herring pinned against the bank and were working them pretty good(At one point, an Osprey came down and plucked a herring from the school - too cool!). Anyway, I finally get tight and hand the rod to the son, Jason. 30.5", 10# on Red Top's scale and biggest smile I have seen in a long time! Quite a battle on the light stuff. Dad got one 27" a few minutes later then it quieted down.

The guys at Red Top treated him great. Pictures outside with the fish hanging on the hook, cars beeping as they went by, pic on the "Wall of Fame". Priceless.

Can't ask for anything more as far as I am concerned.

You did a great thing for that kid, may it come back to you tenfold !!!

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day ...
show him where to fish and ... you'll be sorry

The only thing better would be having the kid cast and hookup on his own. I'm not knocking your assist in this catch, but the feeling that he will get when he knows what to do on his own will be equally priceless. Kudos for getting headed in the right direction!

I agree. When my son and daughter were young I used to hook up and hand them the rod. When they graduated to casting themselves it was even better. So awesome!! My goal is to get my son a keeper size fish this year when he casts, we'll see.

Great job on the fish RickHern!!
