I think Larry's right. I had one of them bite through my boot as a kid on a herring/ whiting boat. Still have the scars from it LOL.They gave it to me to take home for supper.Figured since it tried to eat my foot I should return the favor. Ron

I found a top/bottom set exactly like those a few years ago in the surf line down Herring Cove Beach. I asked around to a few guys I work with that dive and a few bait shops and they came back pretty certain that it was a wolf fish. Unofficial, but pretty sure. I haven't yet come across one myself but based on those teeth, if I do, I'd be pretty careful. Where are they mostly found, surf or further out?

Maybe wolf fish, but I'm thinking one of those South American(?) parribo ot something like that. They showed on one of the exotic fishing shows on TV.
These skull pictures are from confirmed real wolf fish skull, note how the jaw is integral to the rest of the skull.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

I agree with cubera or tiger fish... Not sure... So many weird FW fish I'm not familiar with
Def not a wolffish though, they have big grinding teeth/molars to eat sea urchins... tough to see in the pic but they're there... check out the triple row of teeth at the front of the lower jaw as well

It was my dream fish too. Some of the most savage strikes I've ever seen. The thrill never goes away.
They tend to eat a lot of poppers. . . .

Larry , Those are one of the best tasting fish out there. Once people found out how good well it didn't take long for them to have a large following. Don't know what the regs are but they do taste great. They live on lobster, crabs and clams. Ron

Ron,
As of this year they are off limits for us to keep. (said to be endangered)
Typically found in deep water (300 ft )
They got crusher jaws , reason they eat lobster, crabs & clams.
And you don't want any part of being near their mouths with a finger, hand ect .....
Meat is pink.

I read on another site that a guy got bit by a wolf fish on a head boat. Blood was squirting everywhere... All over the boat, all over other people... poor guy.
