Arizona officials decry long voting queues
In 2012, the county - which includes Phoenix, the state's largest city - had 200 polling places.

Phoenix is a predominately Democratic area. In Maricopa County, about 1.2 million people are eligible to vote, but there were only 60 polling places.
Arizona's Republican-led legislature decided to lower the number of polling places to save money, officials said.
Unintentional consequences or part of the plan
No voter in 2016 should stand in line for 1 -2-3-4 or 5 hrs in any election in any state reguardless of income, party of choice, or neighborhood..

I'd be all for that, with some on the ground options for folks that want it. Scenes like this are horrible. I understand having a wait, typically if I don't get there right when doors open, I figure 30min or so isn't bad. Stories of multiple hours gets ridiculous, whatever party you vote for....
And, I know, I know, all liberals scream and moan about ID's so I should be ranting. I think it is overblown on both sides, it does limit more democrats, but I think it is about the same number as the fraud votes (so close to nil) |

I don't see online voting anytime soon. Aside from the technical considerations the fact that taking the time to get out and vote means something shouldn't be discounted.

Well. If you want to go there, then I will help you figure out why that is. When local governments started cutting polling stations, they removed them from poorer areas where the voting base is more prone to vote democrat.

WDMSO - I'll ask again...how does it benefit the GOP, to suppress Democrat turnout, during the primaries? Please explain. I see how it helps in the general, no idea how it helps them in the primaries...
I agree it looks like some people got screwed out of being able to vote (that needs to be dealt with harshly). But I don't see any political motive. I don't see how it helps the GOP in the general election.

200 polling stations to 60 in a dem district not sure how you cant see it ... if they did the same in all districts for all parties or revert back to 200 polling places on election day I would concede your point .. but that seems not to be the case

Because in the primaries, Republicans run against Republicans, and democrats run against democrats. If fewer democrats show up to vote (while I agree it's unethical), it doesn't help the GOP. It means fewer people will choose between Clinton and Sanders. It does nothing to help the GOP that I can see. Zip. |
