That would be one phenomenally stupid stunt but I would not put it past them. They have been beating their chest significantly lately on matters naval and with Pacific Rim nations (which we are one).

Most likely contrail. It looks like it is going up and away when reality is coming towards you albeit 30K feet up. Reflections from sun...

I once had a guy argue with me that those contrails you see in the sky is really the Govt dropping chemicals from the airplanes to control your mind.
