jointing a plug question

Is there a rule of thumb or guide for jointing a plug. For example 50/50 gives xxx but a 60/40 give yyy.

The reason i asked i am playing around with a needle i turned and it screams joint me,

Thanks in advance men.

This may be one of those things you just have to do to understand.

If you look at a Habs he made it about 70-30 or less. I have built some needles and I made them like that and they were ok. I am not a real big fan of anything jointed but changed my mind a little this past year when I got hold of a Pichney jointed A 40 type plug, large one, and made one last winter had G . x ray it and and I'll tell you it is a winner. Looks like a snake in the water. I am making a few this winter as I think it will be really cool at night in black.

Not always true. I have made some jointed eels and jointed needles that cast well even into the wind. They were made for block island.

I won a bet with a long time block fisherman who was there in the 80's on how it would cast in the wind. He was shocked. He even hoed some from me.

It's all in the weighting and choice of woods. My aerodynamics and physics background didn't hurt either.
