Talking Who Here Likes To Ice Fish???

Do any of you folks ice fish??? Might be a nice group outing later in the season! Not so much about the fish as just getting together and having a cookout on some ice someplace and maybe catch a few? The only thing I hate about ice fishing, other than the cold, the heavy clothing, and in general all the trouble you have to go through just to do it is that it is so difficult to work the pencil poppers just right????

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

I've never tried it, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Do you have to get heavily intoxicated to stand the cold?

BigFish, don't you mean by smeltfishing? I saw some markets sell them now. Those jacks are bigger than a long rod, u know? Anyway, I am in. I got the gear for it.

Notaro, BigFish is talking about fishing on frozen lakes with jigging rods and tip-ups.
Oh, and yes, I go all the time. Ask macojoe, I think he's a big fan of ice fishing. (I asked him to go with me this winter and he said he doesn't go anywhere near ice)

No Notaro....not smelt fishing, that would be saltwater ice fishing> I am talking freshwater, on a pond or lake, for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, pickeral, pike, crappie, muskie, trout, salmon, etc. When we get fishable ice, I will put a group trip together. I promise it will be a good time and you will enjoy it.

BigBo...well see if we can get MacoJoe to go!!! He sounds like a good guy that at least might enjoy some burgers and dogs, and maybe an ice cold beer. (ice cold without a cooler...just sittin' in a pile of snow, with the biggest koozie on earth...the lake itself).

I've been known to use my boat to break ice to fish, but I'm not a big fan of standing on frozen water to pull fish from a small hole. I saw too much ice last winter, which keep me from my striped friends for almost a month, I personally and hoping for a nice mild winter without any ice.

NO ICE!!!!! Then we can all spend a cold day casting for trout...the point is to help each other get through the miseralbe, striperless winter.

Exactly...do you think I "like" standing outside on a frozen foundation in 10 degree weather and a 25 miler blowin' the wind chill to 20 below???? I only go for the same reason! It breaks up the winter and gets me out for some fresh air, which, on a good sunny day is great! Do all that with the right people, and the best finger foods you can muster up???? Sounds like it is worth the trip! Stay tuned T-Lap....I know it sounds at least a little better to you now, doesn't it????

There are some pretty good local ponds for pickerel bass perch.

Flatts1 (aka Mike F) is a BIG (haha) iceman.

He invited me last year but i could not make it at those times.

Sounds like a good idea.

I've got a friend that lives at the edge of a private lake. He's got a huge stone fireplace that we get roaring. He's cooking food all day long on the thing and we get the tip-ups set up right out in front. Last year, my big bass was an 8 lber. It's really a good time.

I think we will have to leave FishWeeWee home that day??? MacoJoe...long about the time we have fishable ice, my winter weight should put me at a cheeseburger shy of 300 pounds!!! You and I can just remain a few feet apart as we do not want to go crashing through the ice!!!
