Nice catch Ray! The mention of blue crabs always triggers a vivid memory I have .... fishing a new moon high tide near a salt pond one night and seeing an army of them...literally thousands of them.... several layers deep... marching towards the ocean as the high tide spilled into the pond. Never seen anything like that again...or since.

Been thinking about trying this. There's been a ton of them swimming by and on the pilings of a dock I've been taking some casts from. Bright healthy looking ones.

My dad used to catch em a lot in his trap. Good eating boiled, as is well known. Ought to pick a few up for the pot as they go by.

Throw them in a paper bag in the fridge next time. They will be easier to handle when the terminating time comes too.

They have to be the most ornery ill tempered creature on earth... one of them got me on the tip of my index finger, poked two holes, drew blood and its still swollen....

Yeah, gotta be careful about that guys; they got some tweakers. Might want to put on some gardening gloves before you pick them up, or maybe scoop em up with a milk jug bailer. Still worth catching though; very tasty!

What is it about blue crabs that people love that they refuse to eat bluefish? Both are strong tastes, at least with a bluefish you can bleed it and cut out the dark meat like a scup. Blue crab is a dedicated taste though. On its own I think it's probably the worst seafood available. At its best it's probably one of the coolest to gather, especially from a boat with a kid at the bow on the net.

WHAT! You compare blue fish to blue crab? What you been smokin? ...
We eat plenty of scup in the spring and again there is no comparison to bloos....
I agree , coolest to gather...

I have never heard anyone say blue crab has a strong flavor. My kids were just questioning the veterinarian mom yesterday while eating some we caught the night before why they only have delicate white meat, while other creatures seem to have at least some dark meat. It is the best seafood available in my opinion. Lobster doesn't compare in my book. We do live in bizzaro world these days, so I really shouldn't be surprised, but that is astonishing to me .
