Good local hikes

Having come home from the hospital this past Christmas unable to walk without a walker, I’ve rehabbed myself to the point where I can handle four mile walks with hills around town without killing myself or fainting from heat exhaustion. I think I would have progressed faster but I managed to get a nasty Lyme infection in March that I’m still working through.

What are some good hikes close to RI (within two hours drive) that I can use to push myself and also get out of town? Not looking to climb mountains but easy trails with reasonable incline and have good scenery. Say 3-6 miles. thx.

Look into the trails in the Freetown Forest. I used to take the dog there often and there are miles of fire roads and trails. At the parking areas there are maps with everything laid out.

Also the Gilbert woods in Foxboro. I mountain biked there for a while, also lots of trails.

I tried mountain biking there once twenty five years ago. When I was unloading my bike a guy rode off the trail with full bmx style armor. That was a short ride.

Norman bird sanctuary in middletown is my all time favorite. I went to summer camp there when i was a kid and know every inch. Hanging rock trail is just so cool to look down at second and third beach. The great swamp in kingston is nice and level. We go there a lot with Hugo.

In CT on Rt 6 just over the line is old furnace state park. Nice trails I'd walk the dog on. HOWEVER, when i lived over there, it was a hook-up spot so when you are in the parking lot keep your head down and eyes forward. (I had no idea what was going on... dumb country boy). My buddy calls it Pickle Park
