Matt Stidstone and Joe Gorbey are two of the best plug and eel chuckers around and I am glad I get to fish with them on a regular basis.

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

I have to say if I had a chance it would be Sergei de Somov because he was so secretive and I like that. P.M.

I grew up on Nantucket, and I always wished that I had a chance to fish with the people who taught my Dad to fish back in the days of the big fish, George Dubock and Bobby Francis (Capt of the Possessor which operated out of west end, and fished the openings and rips all along the south shore, madaket, Esthers and Tuckernuck).

George taught my dad to beach fish, and Bobby was probably the best captain of his time on the island.

The amazing thing about the stories my dad tells me, is that I know they are all true.

These gentlemen took my father under their wings when he was just a boy getting in trouble, and they taught him so much and started him on a new path...

Most people I dream of fishing with fish with me now...
Lots of very memorable people fished the surf in the 70's, I was lucky enough to fish with a lot of them (that meant a lot to me).
I feel that many of today's sharpies would've kicked butt back then.
I'd still like to get the Habs man, Tatoo, and Manzi on the beach together with me for a day, though.
Later,
Rick

No question it would be Stan Gibbs if he were still around, and to fish with 10x10 again would be great also.
But since it would need to be someone alive and still fishing I would choose Tony C, because he knows so much about the beaches of Cape Cod and his way of asking you questions to get you to think about it and not just answering your questions. I've only met him twice, I wish I had his skill. He did tell me once that he caught a bass on one of my needles so that made me feel good.

Karl, why am I on your list? we got skunked I think last time we fished together.

Lots of good choices listed here.

Karl, Arnold Laine was eccentric. He had a wind up record player in his truck and would listen to classical music and popular music of the day while tucked into some notch in the dunes between fishing. No weather was too bad and he pioneered launching samll tin boats in the surf to get to fish on the outer bars up in the Peaked Hill country. He would go out in a twelve footer with a piece of plywood which he would lay across the gunnels and sleep on while waiting for the tide. He was very quiet, almost shy. He was resourcefull as well. He made his own plugs which he called "Beaver cuttings" and Stan Kuzia told me of an eel rig Laine made himself that he used that just murdered bass. Stan has one. He was a market fisherman. From when they showed in the spring until they left in the fall. From the Canal to Race Point and everywhere in between. He was from Templeton MA. and when he decided to give up commercial bass fishing he went to work at Starret Machine in Athol, near Templeton until retirement.
He was so good Bob Pond came out with an Atom 40 called the Arnold Laine special. It came with a hole in the plug with which you stuffed with cotton soaked in Arnold's "special bass attractent" and had instructions from Arnold on how to use it. He put tons of bass on the beach and Frank Woolner told me on the beach he was the best that ever lived. That was saying something.

Why even try.........

I would like to fish with JHABS, BigFish, or Flap....

JHABS....to see how he fishes the Needle
BigFish....because he has helped me on this board alot with my building.

and Flap....cuz I love his columns

That is just if I had to pick.... I really would like to fish with any of you from the board. I do alot of fishing by myself. I have 1 other friend who likes to fish for stripers, so I am usually alone.
