duplicator & needlefish question

I turned up a nice needle that I want to duplicate. The maple Im turning down is 1"x 1" stock. I have the duplicator adjusted all the way in on the mounting brackets and cannot get it close enough to the stock so when it turns down it duplicates the profile. I must be doing something wrong in the set up. Can the small diameter needles be duplicated using the vega?

I've done freshie pencils that were 1/2 inch diameter with no problem on the vega.
