Basic Beginner Lathe Tips

Anyone know of a good thread for info on the
basics of wood turning on a lathe. What chisel to start with, stock
(round or square), technique. Just some quick tips for a beginner
to practice. Thanks in advance!

A book I found helpful was "Turning Wood" by Richard Raffan, Taunton Press.
Taunton Press is the publisher of "Fine Woodworking " magazine. Their web site probably offers DVD/videos for beginner and advance turners. I think the Woodcraft store in Woburn also has seminars on turning, check their web site. Sorby tools might also have how to info available for free.

The Raffan "Turning Wood" video is great. They reference the page of the book as the video moves along. Just watching the way he moves can really help you out.
