I lurked for a few days before deciding to join. I'm now on here all hours of the day and my girlfriend keeps saying "why are you so addicted to that site?" she has no idea!

Never lurked just jumped in both feet and asked who wanted to go to Cuttyhunk and fish for a weekend. I offered a place to stay and to cook and they all thought I was some kind of nut case Boy look at all the friends I have made since that first post. And we did get out to Cutty twice that year. Yes John I remember you caught the biggest fish both times but Clammer and I had more fun Anyone ever see that pizza del. guy????????

Maybe I'm just naive, but what's the big deal about so-called "lurkers"?
Granted, I'm a newcomer to this board and a surf googan,
but I could care less about how many unregistered people are people are viewing this site.
I have only participated in one "Keep The Lights On" raffle, but if there were a monthly fee to be registered here,
I'd pay it because I learn so much about fishing, and I enjoy the opportunity to express my opinion
on all manner of topics in The Scuppers.
IMHO, targeting Unregistered Guests for expulsion/exclusion smacks of elitism.
What if we were all required to "register" on EVERY web site we visit?
How many times per week do you use Google?
You should be required to register.
How often do you use the web to obtain some sort of valuable information?
You should be required to register.
By the way, my own personal choice was to register immediately.
I found this board by doing a search on striped bass,
and immediately upon entering and being unable to view photos,
I registered.

John,

learn the kung-fu of robots.txt and you can ban robots from indexing your site.

And as for lurkers, I was a lurker for a while. Met Notaro through this site, and came out into the "open" and well, I'm sure a lot of people lurk because they dont have anything to say that they feel is worthwhile to contribute, on top of all the cruft other people post.

I think Sandmans post was designed to get more people involved, not a slight towards lurkers. Lurkers might be the smartest of all. Keeping their yaps shut and just deciphering where all the best spots are. You know kind of the Da Vinci code of fishing. Where is the Holy Grail of spots, and all that good stuff.

I found this place and a few other good ones thru a guy that works at Red Top. I was on the phone w/ him looking for info about rod/cooler racks and he asked me if i had checked the classified/buy-sell-trade forums on this site, SOL, CTF,etc. I responded with, "Huh? What's a forum?" The guy gave me the web sites, I found them and instantly registered on 5 or 6 the first day. I still do a lot more reading than commenting. Tons of great people and info!!! I just didn't see there being any good reason to lurk.

Just checked for the hell of it. The reports never get updated.

I figured it out when I first registered.
The best spots are in saltwater.
Between NC and ME.

I joined so I could look at the fish-porn.
(Can't see pictures unless you register.)

I started out on "Tim's" site in Jersey and moved on to "Pete's" on Long Island. That's where I do most of my posting. I come here about once a week and I must say that you guys are top notch. I don't relate to the fishing and social situations up your way so I keep my trap shut. Keep up the good work and I'll keep lurking (even though I'm a member)
