I would think hooking a starfish is way more challenging than a bass.

It is far more common than you may think - when you do hook one it sometimes feels like you have a good bump and then hookup. It then becomes a serious pull to free it from whatever it may be hanging onto and then bringing it in. They sometimes will take drag as if you have a fish. It is the current running that causes the drag.
What I cannot figure out is why the starfish doesn't let the hook pull out, when it is easily dis-lodged when you have them onshore. Sometimes the hook is well in beyond the barb and a light tug will tear it right through the skin. Not the case when horsing them in.
NIB - I am sure you had a big cow on and not a starfish as Skip tells it. You should have saved the lip and mounted it for show and tell.

One of the worst ( actually the best) fights I've ever had with a bass was a 32"er covered in that long brown lasagna kelp. Fought that bugger till my arms burned - thought sure I had my 50#er.
MAC was there to witness the whole embarrassing episode.
Ya never know.

hey been fishin, it's Slip , not Skip
I know what he had on that night, I was next to the elitist and had it not been for my 20 pounder biting my jig just seconds before his jig got to the zone, he would have had my fish on instead of the one he let have it's way with him. I'd estimate it may have been 35 at most.

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.
1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!
It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.

Starfish don't shake their heads after you hook them, even if the current causes drag

Hey Skip.Thats funny.
I never let it have any way with me thats why I lost it.Caught fish over 35 lbs in there. About the same current. this one was bigger.Hook was not in a good spot, the way I see it I could have lost it after 2 mins or ten mins.Hook in good i land it.
Or it could have been a foul hooked fish that i would make everyone wait till the tide slowed to land
Thanks for clearin the hole of the punny fish..
