What do you use for bait? I haven't done it in many years but we used to use shrimp. What tide are they showing on?

Are there any placese where you can rent Ice Shacks for smelt?

Interested, yes. I'd like to hear more. Where, when, how much...Very interested.

I was thinking about ME, maybe two tides, drive up an sat and fish the afternoon tide and then the morning tide on Sunday and then drive back. I also asked on Noreast, so if we get enough guys maybe we can charter a bus or something.

mike sounds good. any reason we're waiting till late feb? i've done well in jan up there. just to elaborate for those who havn't been to a smelt camp - when the estuaries in maine freeze up you can rent little shacks on the ice and clean up on smelt, if you get lucky. you get the shack for short money and fish a "tide", incoming/outgoing. it's a fun way to spend some time fishing in the middle of the winter.

The Night time is the Right time for smelts, plan your tide so it is dark when you go up to Maine.

James Eddy is a good camp up there. I think its $14 a tide for a shack
