john, I just got my vs back today from service and repair, I messed this process up. You have to allign the main gear right in the replacement process. I did this a few times and it worked, but 1 time and I messed it up. I reccomend to use the service wrench if you can get your hands on one. Do not over tighten it when putting the sideplate back on. If you mess this up and jam it, DONT TRY TO UNDO IT!! I was shown a method to get this fixed if you don't touch it.
Good luck,
Nick
P.S. Did you want me to email you?
I can only pm because the lotus email on my computer wont work.

Correct. I'm drawing a blank on the grease though, Lubri-Plate 130-AA white grease I think.
Self service kits and more service stations are coming soon...

Well, for tonight it has a little synthetic Rear Axle Lubricant . Perhaps I should put in a little Limited Slip Friction Modifier ?

I used electrical tape and channel locks..fished for a good part of the spring with 50w Mobile 1 in mine.
I did not like how stiff it was.A friend showed me how to do it.. I broke it down and cleaned it up..
I Packed the top part with the surfcaster grease an half filled the bottom with the mobile 1..It works great now..
U can see where the problem lies..You have to line the little knob on the main gear into the slot of the traverse gear as You put em together. If u mis-align this and overtighten it will not back up and the only way to get em aprt is to hacksaw thru the body and the shaft of the main gear..

Mike - it is pretty easy now that I figured out the trick (don't hold the spool when you try to loosen the side plate - hold the reel foot). Just fill 'er up with some oil

If you get heat build up with no oil in their you might as well throw the reel in the garbage. One it seizes kiss it goodbye.

Supposedly just a few weeks but for some reason everything takes longer in the fishing industry, I can't figure out why though...
