I used electrical tape and channel locks..fished for a good part of the spring with 50w Mobile 1 in mine.
I did not like how stiff it was.A friend showed me how to do it.. I broke it down and cleaned it up..
I Packed the top part with the surfcaster grease an half filled the bottom with the mobile 1..It works great now..
U can see where the problem lies..You have to line the little knob on the main gear into the slot of the traverse gear as You put em together. If u mis-align this and overtighten it will not back up and the only way to get em aprt is to hacksaw thru the body and the shaft of the main gear..

FORE!
It's usually darkest just before it turns Black..

Mike - it is pretty easy now that I figured out the trick (don't hold the spool when you try to loosen the side plate - hold the reel foot). Just fill 'er up with some oil

If you get heat build up with no oil in their you might as well throw the reel in the garbage. One it seizes kiss it goodbye.

Supposedly just a few weeks but for some reason everything takes longer in the fishing industry, I can't figure out why though...
