potential fines = potentially tiny fines if the owners have some connected friends.
but this could be looked at as further proof the SB fishery is moving offshore.

i would agree with tiny fines,
if it was in state waters
these mommalukes comitted their offenses in
Federal waters AND lied to tha FEDS
they should have their licenses REVOKED and pay
the steepest fines allowable by law. poachers SUCK!!

Maybe they could have their boats confiscated as evidence, and auctioned off to help fund additional operations in the future?

This is a problem off the cape as well. Lot of rips behind Nantucket hold bass in the summer but are in Federal waters. Charter boats frequent them often. Think at least one guy got nabbed last year for the same thing.

Was funny
I remember an Amendment VI meeting where a couple Cape Cod Comms said they go 12 to 30 miles out all the time to get their basses...

I think by regulation the actual Captains are supposed to automatically loose their licenses if the charges are proven...good!!!

Happens all the time down off the SW corner of Block Island. Last year the DEM cops and the feds handed out a lot of tickets to both private and charter boats. Good!

The Viking boat, which was one of the boats cited wasn't fishing all that far off the SW corner of Block.
