need some guidence
I run firefox but i keep getting these pop ups that are Internet Explore pop ups, I think, while I am on line in firefox. Happens every so often and it is pissing me off. They are advertisements and come up on the screen and they are in explorer and I am not even running that. Any ideas?

Sounds like spyware. The pop-ups probably have nothing to do with the sites you're browsing in FireFox...there's just a bot on your system that keeps spitting them out.
Is your antivirus/spyware software up to date?

Typically, that's a sign of malware on your computer. Do you run anything that scans and detects malware like MalwareBytes or Ad-Aware?
If you don't, first thing I would do is download MalwareBytes and fun a full scan. You can find the download link here:

Is Firefox set as the default browser? Might be why things keep opening in IE.
Not discounting the possibility of malware.

Good call. If he opens Firefox strictly manually, it may not be the default browser. The malware is probably opening the ads in the default web browser which would explain why they open in IE. |

the right response when you operate either Browser when they ask you : do you want this to be the default browser?
is to always say yes.
i typically have both Internet explorer and fire-fox open sometimes
so i can revert to one or the other for different duties
but i know what you mean Paul ...on the living room PC there's this NASTY pop up add where a girl is saying some congratulations crap.... and last night it was running two at once! P.I.A.
make sure you have POP up blocker running in fire fox and there's some new and improved add ons for a super duper version
but anyways ya want the one where a little window pops up where you can click  BLOCK the "F" out of this  |

Ye sit is my default browser. I have AVG paid version. I use spy bot but need to run it as I have not in a while. So I am on the site in firefox and I change to another site and up pops this friggin advertisement, different all the time, and it is in Explorer. I have not used Explore in over a year or 2 even. I will recheck everything you have said to make sure. Thank you

Paul, do JohnnyD's suggestion and run that a couple times, when done, download and run Dr Web Cureit
After that is done, download and run Prevx. If it is clean afterward you should be good. The forst two programs are free for home use, the last, Prevx, cost $30 to clean most things but I use it a lot in my business to clean stuff out...

What you can do if there is a spyware issue is to run a malware scan while your AVG is just sitting around. One program will search your pc different than another and both have different databases in recognizing threats. So basically you can have 1 scan while the other is active. In your case, update that spybot and have it do a scan while AVG is just active. Chances are (if anything is there) Spybot might check a certain path your AVG doesn't and all of a sudden Spybot and/or AVG finds the spyware and takes care of it. Think of it as a One Two punch combo. If nothing is still found, it could just be the settings in IE and/or Firefox. PC's are funny like that. *Remember it could just be whatever site's you go to which happens to be most since I get this issue and it isn't Spyware just annoying!*

I've had plenty of times where Malware will search and says it finds "nothing" but mid-scan Avast! gets the problem file. Try also disabling IE altogether.
