The 1881 Graves Point photo is still my all-time favorite - 10 basswith an average weight of 49.5 lbs. is a pretty good morning's fishing, especially when you consider the equipment they were using. Next time you're there, check out the 58# in the photo - it's a racer
I actually have a greenheart striped bass rod from that era with a vom Hofe leather thumb-brake reel that still has the old Cuttyhunk line on it. Just found 3 spools of unused Cuttyhunk line and I still want to give it a shot some night just to see what it must have been like
But I'll use eels instead of the the lobster tails those guys were probably using for bait -
