I used to use snelled and now use polamar. I think you got the weed thing right , its do to the tag end. I didn't notice any difference in the eel action. I switch because I used to buy pre snelled hooks but couldn't always get the hook I wanted (I became paranoid and wanted bigger and bigger hooks! ). Obviously I tie my own polamar onto whatever hook I want (8/0 !) .
