Turned down eyes

This is how you achieve a straight pull with a turned down eye, and the reason for snelling such hooks I thought.

Why snell a straight eyed hook and lose the straight pull ????

Palomar with heavy leader- why? Huge knot with a breaking strength far above that of the main line????
