from risaa re. Reeves
Dear Chief Hall,
The Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers
Association, is both saddened and angered to learn of the arrest of
Albert Reeves for the illegal possession of striped bass.
At a time when the striped bass populations are slowly diminishing, the
illegal poaching of this important fish hurts everyone. It is not a
matter of one person keeping a few extra fish, but rather he is stealing
from every citizen of the state.
Please stress to the court that a monetary fine has little effect on a
dishonest person when he can make over $1,000 a day illegally selling
striped bass, and in this case, Mr. Reeves has proven this fact.
We urge you to request that the court allow RIDEM Enforcement to seize
his boat and equipment. Only such a seizure will hurt a habitual
offender like Mr. Reeves and serve as a deterrent for other potential
thieves.
Respectfully,
Stephen Medeiros, President
Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association
