"It was light from Venus relecting off of some swamp gas"....(Men in Black)

Could be another version of "Snakes on a Plane" scenario?
(Two guys that were seeking asylum were "offed" by those looking for them, and the pilot/co pilot were blackmailed into causing the plane to "dissappear".

Happens all the time on tv.

I am a legend in my own mind!

Heres my hunch.. There was a hijacking attempt. The two hijackers gained access into the cockpit and the plane changed course.. passengers, aware of what happened on 9/11, entered the cockpit and a struggle ensued.. The hijackers put the plane into a nose dive and the plane hit the water like a gannet ( as Bigfish suggested).. The nose of the plane exploded, and water filled the plane quickly, the wings were full of fuel and the plane simply sank to the bottom, trapping its contents inside, thus... the lack of wreckage. All that said, there is wreckage floating around out there.. it just has not been seen yet.
