At least something's swimming somewhere....
Unlike these fish.....they ain't swimmin' no more - it's great that we all see the state of the fishery the same

Don't misunderstand me, everybody needs to make a living - and the times that I've party-boated, I had the same mission...pack the freezer.
I'm not faulting the captain nor the fares, more the over-all system.

No different than out front Newport right now with blackfish. The out of state and instate head boats and private boats hammering on those slow growing buggers is not sustainable... |

Fiddling with the slot is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic as they say. Time for scheduled closures is now before it needs to be an all out moratorium again. YOY is not going to get any much better until the water cools off.

I thought that they got it right after the moratorium, with 1@36". But then one questionable YOY index gave them all the excuse they needed to open the floodgates again. Then they started pushing "maximum sustainable yield" and right then and there, I knew it was doomed to fail. Maximum sustainable yield means managing the fishery right on the edge, how many fish can we allow to be killed each year, without any means of accurately determining total recreational harvest and release mortality. Instead of data they relied on "best guesses". |

Can't use the old numbers/targets. They need way more mating fish to produce decent YOY numbers going forward.
