If you want the finish to really last before you apply the paint prime the reel with Rustoleum clean metal primer,then apply your 1st coat of paint.Between coats of paint sand with 400grit sandpaper.After the second coat of paint is totally cured topcoat it with a spray lacquer.
Your reel will look fantastic and the finish really last!
