Reverse Tie Technique

NIB, the tying technique is called reverse tie. Tie the bucktail on with the fiber facing forward, then fold it back in itself and tie off. It was originated by Carrie Stevens, who tied classic landlocked salmon flies back in the 20'/30's. One of her most famous streamer patterns is called the Gray Ghost. She tied several bucktail patterns for saltwater fishing using this technique. ( Her patterns adapt beautifully to big flatwings for saltwater fly fishing.) It was later used in a series of flies called Thunder Creek flies (great silveside patterns) and more recently by Bob Popovics in his Hollow Flyes.
