The best thing about the fishing buddy is it gives a side view as well as a bottom view, The bottom view would be null in this case

BUT ... With the right Planar board setup you could theoretically tow a sonar x-ducer and get your reading that way

I can smell the wood burning.
So JR its not such a whacked out idea after all. Not very probable, but still not totally insane.
What if your vehicle is stationary on the beach because your plugging, and position a fishfinder in the water. Why wouldn't that work. You could stand there and not cast until a known object swims nearby or in your direction. A small screen could be attached to yourself in some manner and BINGO, make your cast.

need to connect it to some power pro, cast it out into the surf and reel her back.
Would be cool in the canal too but I believe the distance is limited.
