NBC and CBS will both broadcast Saturday's Patriots-Giants game, the NFL announced today.

"We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in the league's statement. "What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever."

CBS and NBC will both carry the NFL Network feed of the broadcast, with Bryant Gumbel handling play-by-play and Cris Collinsworth handling commentary. Local stations in Boston (Channel 5), Manchester, New Hampshire (Channel 9) and New York (Channel 9) will also show the game.

This will be the first simulcast of an NFL game since Super Bowl I, which both CBS and NBC televised.
The first SB was simulcast as far as the picture feed, but each network had their own announcers---Ray Scott on CBS, and Curt Gowdy and Al Derogatis on NBC.

I understand that Channel 5 bid on the game and had to pay for the rights to air it--how does that work now that CBS and NBC will be airing it--do they get their money back?

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.
